12th Grade Year Action Checklist

  • Continue your challenging classes and keep your grades up.  DON’T get Senioritis!
  • Meet with Counselor one on one to discuss post-high school plans.
  • Investigate a broad list of colleges and enter them in Naviance.
  • Consider and explore other opportunities, such as a gap year, work, military, apprenticeship programs, etc. 
  • Look for scholarship opportunities all year long. Check out our districtwide slide deck of resources.
  • Attend College Application Workshops for UC, CSU, Common Applicaton, & Community College as needed.
  • Finalize Personal Insight Questions (UC) and Personal Essays (Private Colleges).
  • Get your college applications in as early as you can.  UC APPLICATIONS & CSU APPLICATIONS DUE November 30. 
  • Follow up as needed by checking email often and creating accounts or portals for UC and CSU campuses you applied
  • Apply to Private Schools
  • Research colleges, check for individual deadlines and mark your calendar.
  • Decide if you will be applying early.
  • Create and Complete Common App as necessary.
  • Attend mandatory Common Application workshop.
  • Request letters of Recommendation through Naviance no later than NOVEMBER 20 for Regular Decision (earlier for EA/ED).
  • Request transcripts for Private School Applications and scholarships.
  • Complete supplemental essays.
  • Prepare for interviews by looking at common questions and doing mock interviews with others.
  • By January, follow through on any mid-year documentation requests.
  • CHECK EMAIL OFTEN - Look out for messages from colleges you’ve applied to.
  • Attend Financial Aid Workshop.
  • Beginning October 1 - Fill out financial aid forms such as FAFSA, CA DREAM ACT, CSS PROFILE etc. as needed.
  • Community College Applicants:  Attend CC workshops in early spring semester.
  • Follow through on registration, requirements, financial aid documents (if needed).
  • Complete FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application by or before MARCH 2nd.
  • Follow up on financial aid applications by reviewing your Student Aid Report (SAR) or California Aid Report (CAR). Make corrections if needed.
  • Write thank you notes to anyone who has helped you. (those who wrote letters, interviewers etc.).
  • Review financial aid offers for 4 year colleges and make a final decision by May 1.
  • Take the last of your IB/ AP exams and/or your finals, then enjoy a fabulous graduation!
  • Request final transcript to be sent to college you will attend in the fall.
