Everything is a text. Every text operates within a larger cultural discourse. From billboards to pep rallies, poetry to novels - everything is a text to be deconstructed, analyzed and examined. The key aim of the course is the development of critical literacy and will focus on the application of philosophical and theoretical frameworks for critical analysis and examination of written, visual, and oral texts. Students are expected to demonstrate an awareness of how language and meaning inform, and are informed by, domains of power. This is the second year of a two year sequence.
