Grade Level: 9-12
Foods and Nutrition is an applied laboratory-based course designed to educate students about food preparation and the functional components of foods. Students also learn about food safety and sanitation and students complete the industry recognized Food Handlers Certificate. The comprehensive course in the Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation Pathway helps students understand how food choices impact health. Through examination of food labels, dietary guidelines, meal planning and dietary analysis students become aware of practical techniques of maintaining and improving health. The course also explores the role of food in respect to it its historical, social environmental context through preparation of Regional Foods of the United States. Students will make connections to careers related to the food service and hospitality industry.
The course meets the UC/CSU A-G "g" college elective requirement.
The course meets the CTE district graduation requirement.
