Camp Enterprise

By: Angel T.

On the weekend of October 3rd to October 5th, selective students from all around the bay area gathered together at the beautiful Point Bonita in the Marine Headlands for a weekend of new experience. Camp Enterprise, an event sponsored by the San Francisco Rotary Club, is a weekend designed to give students the opportunity to learn business techniques, leadership skills, how to effectively conduct projects and presentations, as well as the chance to win scholarships. When you first arrive at Point Bonita, you are immediately greeted by the mountain scenery, the old missile sight, and a clear view of the bay. In addition to free food and lodging, camp shirts, and workshops, the students are treated with inspirational speakers such as Mike Walsh, a successful businessman, and Olympic medalist Paul Kingsman. Every workshop strive to better equip students with the skills and information they needed to make the best out of their Camp Enterprise experience, and to do well in their business project. Workshops included sessions discussing Go Green businesses and what we can do to incorporate that into our projects, to possibly get an environmental rebate. Activities include team building exercises, where students are put on the spot to either step down or step up as a leader.

Our very own Capuchino students-Courtney Kwan, Sydnie McGuire, Stephanie Pang, and myself, represented the San Mateo District at Camp Enterprise, and did exceptionally well. Sydnie McGuire’s business project, a school invested company that sold lunchtime crepes, placed 2nd; and Stephanie Pang’s, a company that sold DVDs of school events, placed 3rd.  There is also an overall scholarship of $1000, awarded to three students. This year's winners' were DeAnthony Jones, Shanna Chakkalakel, and Zaina Malouf. The three were rewarded for their outstanding leadership skills, ability to cooperate, and a decent understanding of the businesses they've created.

"It was a great opportunity and everyone should go if they had the chance!" -Courtney Kwan, Junior

Camp Enterprise is an annual event! So Cap students, if you are interested in attending next year's camp, join the Interact Club in A202, Mr. Meyer's classroom, for the opportunity of a lifetime.
