Meet Capuchino's Associated Student Body Representatives 10/1/08

\

What is your job and what does that entail?

Ben- I’m Ben Dieterle and I’m the ASB President. As president I give everyone the overview of what the week is going to look like, check-in with every commission/council to make sure all their questions are answered, and I pretty much just make sure everything is running smoothly! In addition, I usually attend meetings, make speeches, and my biggest job is making sure that the student’s voices are being heard to the administration. Lastly, I’m the student advisor for the Freshmen council, which means I just help them in planning events and making sure they really understand what Leadership is all about. It all may sound overwhelming but it’s actually really fun!

Victoria- I am ASB Vice President. I ensure that the student activities goes well, I run meetings, and I help with the student council.'

What do you hope to achieve this year?

Conrad- We hope to create a stronger sense of school spirit as well as creating a multitude of fun events for the students here at CAP.

Ben- ‘WOW, I hope to accomplish A LOT this year! Ultimately, my goal is to start the change of the bad reputation for Capuchino, and ultimately make it the most fun & spirited school in the SMUHSD! In addition, I want to make school a place where students want to go, where they’ll can be themselves and be spirited, instead of a place where they go just because their forced to everyday. I mean, you’re only in high school once, might as well make the most of it and be involved! Lastly, I want people to take pride in going to Capuchino! When someone asks me what school I go to, I’m quick to respond “Oh Yeah, I go to Capuchino!” Take pride in your school Mustangs!

Victoria- I hope that everyone this year gains more pride and love for Cap and that everyone has a great experience.

Alexis- I hope to have successful events, like homecoming and spring fling. My ultimate achievement is simply: smiles. I hope that all of the events we put on are pleasing for the people participating in them and for the people watching.

What about your personality or characteristics do you think will contribute to the ASB council, and why?

Conrad- I am 100% dedicated to my job. I am a hard worker that can solve problems as well.

Ben- I will bring my determination, confidence, and creativity to ASB . The reason why I will bring these 3 characteristics is because these are the three characteristics I believe that make a strong leader.

Victoria- I’m really enthusiastic and outgoing. I am also able to take charge, which helps with being cool with and leading the student body.

Alexis- ‘I’m a very dedicated and hard-working person. I give 100% to everything that I do, sometimes more than that. If I make a mistake, I’ll shake it off and try even harder the next time. I think that my efforts push others to try just as hard. I’m also a “dork”; I’m openly zany, and I do that so others won’t be intimidated by me. A leader should be approachable so others can comfortably ask questions and be open with their thoughts and feelings.’

What do you think of our school slogan this year?

Conrad- I really like it because we are lucky enough to go to a school that can provide us with so many choices to peruse.’

Ben- ‘Well to tell you the truth I was a little shocked to see that we had a slogan for school, because I have never heard of a school having a theme to its school year. But overall, I think it’s a perfect slogan to live by for school and even in life. As long as someone gives their best, there is no way you’re going to see failure! All I’m saying to the student body is to try to bring your best and you’ll be surprised by the great results!’

Victoria- I think Ms. Shanks had a great train of thought. It’s an awesome slogan and pushes the students to do well!’

Alexis- I like it. I think it’s the first slogan we’ve had, since I’ve been at Cap. I applaud the teachers’ and the administration’s creativity. It’s a pretty cute slogan, and it has both enthusiasm and meaning.

How do you hope to lead our student body in regards to the school slogan?

Conrad- We want for students to participate in our events, and we will make sure that they will have fun.’

Ben- ‘I want to bring my best to the student body and get as many people as I can to attend events that way everyone is involved and is having a good time. I will definitely try my hardest to make events that all students could enjoy as a whole, not just an event that I personally think is fun.

Victoria- By encouraging students to be involved at Cap. This sets the atmosphere of doing well in school.

Alexis- I believe in leading by example, and the quote, “Do or do not. There is no try”. I “bring my best” to everything that I do. I will do my best, there is no attempting to do your best, just do it.

What is the toughest thing about being in a leadership role?

Conrad- The hardest part of being in a leadership role would be stepping out of my comfort zone. I’m a pretty shy person.’

Ben- Planning an event is definitely one of the hardest things to do in Leadership. Sometimes there are just so many elements that you have to incorporate that you have to stay organized in order to have a successful event.

Victoria- There’s a lot of work to do. You’re responsible for the student body’s involvement and experience, so you really have to do a good job.

Alexis- The toughest thing is trying to be an assertive leader, not being aggressive nor passive, but assertive. I try to think before I say things, because what you say affects the way people think of you. I have to be very conscientious about what I say, and it gets really difficult to control my impulses. I have to be myself, yet be very controlling in my behavior. It’s hard just thinking about it!

What is the most rewarding thing for you being a school leader?

Conrad- The most rewarding thing about being a school leader is that I have the privilege to make a difference in my school by participating in diverse number of activities.

Ben- Completing an event is definitely the most rewarding. Only you know how much work was put into it, and the best part of doing an event is seeing how many people go and the good times had by everyone. Believe me whenever someone says “Great Job” or even “Thank You” it’s the best compliment that you could get after an event and it gives you this feeling of accomplishment. It gets you ready to tackle any goal because you know that hard work gets you what you want.

Victoria-‘I love seeing the students having fun, and hearing that they have more respect and love for cap. It’s a really good feeling.’

Alexis- The most rewarding thing is when the students say that the event we put on was good or they really liked it. Our goal is for the student body to enjoy our events, so when we hear good feedback then it makes all the work worth it.’

What advice do you have for students that hope to become a member of ASB in the future?

Conrad- It is a lot of work, so before you commit yourself, make sure that you are committed to your school.’

Ben- ANYONE can be on ASB, you don’t have to be a genius, or popular, or athletic, to get a position! You just need to breathe that Mustang spirit and have the urge to make a change! Remember to keep your grades up and get involved with Leadership! It’s also a very rewarding job and it’s a great way to have fun with people from school! You must be the change you want to see in your school!!

Victoria- Work hard, put out, have fun, relax, don’t stress- and remind yourself why you’re doing this.

Alexis- You don’t need experience or be the most outgoing person on campus to be in leadership; if you just have that desire to help the school, apply! Note though, that to be a part of ASB and, or leadership, you have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone, to set an example and to be approachable. You cannot be a leader and have bad behavior, nor bad grades.

Do you have Mustang pride?

Conrad- YOU KNOW!

Ben- DO I HAVE MUSTANG PRIDE??? Of course I DO!!! I eat, sleep, breath Mustang everyday! I want to make sure everyone else has it too, so keep dressing up for those GREEN & GOLD FRIDAYS!!! Like our Leadership class says, “Ain’t No Thang, Better Than A Mustang!” Go MUSTANGS.

Victoria-Of course! Mad pride!

Alexis- Of course! To be part of ASB, you have to have school pride! Go Mustangs!
