1. Sign out all equipment from the control room at all times!!!!
2. Respect all Capuchino students, faculty, and staff while shooting and don’t disturb other classes.
3. Never leave equipment unattended.
4. Handle equipment with care and be responsible for damages.
5. Return equipment at the beginning of the day it's due and in the place where it belongs!
Using a camera and tripod locate the buttons and complete the tasks described below.
I. Camera Section-Locate and use the following:
- Microphone Jack
- Head phones and video in/out jack
- DV input for firewire
- DC power plug for charging
- Viewfinder, LCD and lens
- The VCR/Camera power button-The Record Button
- The auto to manual control switch- indicated by a green rectangle on the LCD
- The Exposure Button and adjuster
- The Auto Focus button and adjuster
- The Zoom Control
- Insert and Eject a Tape
- The menu button
- Locate the tripod’s Head, Arm, Legs and base plate.
- Extend legs evenly so that the tripod head will sit level to the ground. (check bubble)
- Check that latches are secure and the tripod is solid before attaching the camera.
- Always set the height and level of the tripod before attaching the camera.
- When attaching the camera to the tripod mounting head, make sure to lock the quick release lever before taking your hand away from the camera.
- Leave the pan lever loose when not standing near the camera
- Locate and use the pan knob
- Locate and use the tilt knob
- Locate and use the pedastal knob and raise the camera to eye level.
- Try panning and tilting at the same time.
- Break down the tripod by removing the camera first and replacing the base plate.

- Avoid shooting into bright lights/backgrouds or your actors will be silohuetted.
- Hold the camera steady, with 2 hands and move smoothly or you'll get shakey unusable footage.
- Wait for 2 seconds after you hit the record button to start your action and record a take for at least 7 seconds. You can always trim the shot in the edit.
- Avoid pumping the zoom or zooming while you are recording. Instead use the zoom to setup your shots and then hit the record button.
- For best audio with your on-camera mic, position yourself as close to the person or object you are trying to record.
