Advanced Video Production-

Welcome back to video production and I hope you’re ready for another creative and busy year. Now that you have a good basic knowledge of the production process, we’ll build on your technical skills and creative talents in the production of projects that will be viewed by our school community. Here is some of what you have to look forward to:

• Segments: Advanced video this year will be taking more responsibility in the production of our weekly broadcast, Mustang News. Each student will be required to produce segments, commercials and PSA’s for Capuchino related news and issues. Much of our time and energy will be focused on highlighting Capuchino’s community.

• Tutorials: Students will also be learning new technology skills in Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, and Sound Track, DVD studio pro, LiveType and Compression. Motion graphics, layering and compositing will be taught as we work on tutorials in each of these programs.

• Senior Slideshow : This year the advanced students will be responsible for the production and marketing of our school video year book. All members will contribute both time and effort in the completion of this major project.

• Personal Class projects that ask you to further you understanding of film and production.

Studio Management-
The studio will be managed much like a television station. There will be a student executive producer who will oversee the production of the entire broadcast. This person will be responsible for assigning stories and personnel. Each segment will have its own producer who will be responsible for the camera work, interview content, writing, graphics and editing for that segment. It will be their responsibility to make sure that they have help where they need it and that all the contributors to that segment are on schedule. Each person must work at the different roles in producing a broadcast. If you worked on graphics one week, then you must take on a different role the next. We will discuss more how this will look in practice. Our first production will be in two weeks, so our segments must be produced by then. Normally we will only have2 weeks to produce a segment, so be focused and on task is a must!!!

Participation/Teaching
The success of video production and the Mustang News broadcast this year really is going to depend on how focused and dedicated the advanced students are. This is your opportunity to manage and run your own TV station!!! This is an amazing opportunity so I hope you look at the class a place where you have a voice and feel a sense of pride about what goes on here. We have the freedom to create something that this school has never seen before. Let’s take advantage of it. As a way to encourage your hard work, participation will be factored in heavily into your grade each day. So please remember to stay focused on developing your talents and creating a product that you feel proud to say is yours. Participation is also about helping others learn to master the tools you have spent a year learning, so take charge and help out others as much as possible.
