Overview of "Honk!"
Honk! was a success as it received many applauses and laughs from its riveted audience. The musical consisted of a cast of talented singers and actors who didn’t fail to show off their skills during each of their four performances. Honk! was a play portraying the poultry tale of the Ugly Duckling. Ugly, played by Gina Barsanti, was in search of acceptance from even his own family. Sabrina Sihakom played the antagonist, a hungry vicious cat who wanted to eat Ugly for lunch. Emma Fuchs played Ida, the truly loving mother who was just too distracted to notice Ugly’s turmoil. Drake, Ugly’s father, was portrayed well through Dan Tinkham’s great acting as a somewhat self-centered, lazy father who was too worried about his cool reputation to show compassion towards his unusual son.
“Everyone in the play was extremely talented. Their hard work really paid off,” says a viewer of the play.
One scene which received many laughs was the scene in which Todd Suenaga played the wise frog who tried to cheer Ugly up through the telling of jokes as he noticed Ugly’s deep sorrow of not being accepted by the world as his siblings were. Although Ugly didn’t find the frog’s jokes creative and fun, the audience laughed with delight from the innocence Todd Suenaga was able to portray through his likeable character.
